It Was Always You | Luke Castellan 2 - the start of something (2024)

Adela didn't know where she was, not necessarily. She knew she was on a boat somewhere in the middle of the sea.

Luke kept her locked up below deck.

He barely would come down and talk to her but she refused to talk to him.

He would send someone else down to give her food. When they made stops, they'd get different clothes for her any products she needed.

It's weird how fast someone could love you, and show you attention and go to nothing.

Friends to lovers to nothing.

Not quite enemies.

She hated Luke for what he did to the people he called friends. For everything he'd done to her. Almost killing her twice.

But a part of Adela still loved him.

She prayed for someone to help. She prayed to her father to help her, or to send someone to get her but no avail.

It's already been a month.

She's been stuck in a cell for a month with barely any contact from the outside world. Only time she got to talk was to Luke or the others but even then, she wouldn't say anything.

Adela hasn't heard her voice in weeks, she wondered if it still sounded the same.

Luke had so much to plan and he didn't visit her for four days so one day he decided to go down at check on her. To see if it would be different. To see if she would speak to him, or even look at him and that broke his heart.

Adela was sitting on her blanket on the ground in the corner of the cell with her legs up, arms wrapped around them and her chin on her knees.

The door to the deck opened and she heard something coming down. She looked to see Luke coming down.

No longer in a camp shirt.

He had a plan black shirt on and those khaki pants that he wore at camp.

He walked over to the cell and stopped in front of the door. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the key and unlocked it.

He slightly opened the door and stepped inside and closed it behind him. He leaned down to her level clasped his hands together.

He sighed, looking at her. "You haven't eaten anything in three days." Luke said and she didn't say anything. "You look sick. You've lost a lot of weight. You're weak." He said and again, she didn't say anything.

"Please, say something. You haven't said a word to me since camp. That was a month ago." He said. "Say anything you want. Yell at me. Just say something, Adela." He pleaded.

Luke was getting worried about her. He wanted to make things right but she wouldn't let him.

He reached in his back pocket and set a small book down in front of her. "I got you this. Thought you might like it." He said standing up.

He walked towards the door opening and stepping out of it. He turned around, shutting and locking it, looking at her.

"I miss talking to you. Whenever you are ready to talk, I'll be here. I really want to explain everything." He said and waited a few seconds to see if she would reply to him.

He accepted that she wouldn't say anything and started walking back up the stairs. "I'll send someone down to give you dinner. Please eat it." He said and walked out the door and shut it.

She heard the lock go and sighed.

Adela reached out in front of her and grabbed the book. 'The Glass Castle'

She thought about reading it. It would be better than staring at the wall. But at the same time she didn't want to give Luke the satisfaction that she would read something that he picked for her.

But there was nothing to do.

So she opened the book and started reading it.

What felt like a few hours passed, the door opened and someone came down with a tray of food. They opened the door and set it down right next to her.

"Luke asked that you consider eating it. He said it's one of your favorites." The guy said, walking back out and locking it.

He walked back up the stairs and left her alone.

She looked at the food and Luke was right it was once of her favorites. Chicken nuggets with mac and cheese.

Adela thought back to camp. Whenever they served it, she knew it was going to be a good day. They didn't serve a whole selection of foods, but it was one of her favorites.

Luke would always give her a few extra pieces of his to make her more happy. She missed that.

The next day came around and the same guy came down to bring her breakfast. He noticed that the tray of food was empty and she ate her dinner.

First time in days.

He unlocked the cell and set down the tray of food, grabbing the empty one and walking back out and locking it up. He turned to walk away.

"Tell Luke I want to talk." She said.

The guy turned around, shocked by her voice. He didn't even know she could speak. They stared at each other for a few seconds before he nodded and walked up the stairs.

Adela ate her breakfast. She stood up and walked over to the sink, washing her hands and face. She brushed her hair and put it in braids.

She put on a pair of black cargo pants and a black long sleeve that Luke bought her. She put on her black converse that she had from camp.

The door opened and she heard footsteps coming down the stairs and she felt someone standing by her cell. "I heard from my guy that you spoke. So what do you want to talk about?" She heard Luke asked.

She turned around and crossed her arms.

Adela looked him up and down, before settling her gaze on his eyes. "Everything." She said. Luke looked at her for a second, crossing his arms. First time he heard her voice since the last night at camp.

"Where should I start?" He asked her.

"The beginning." Adela said.
