The Himiway A7 Pro is a “Beast Mode” Commuter
The A7 Pro isn’t simply an ebike you can use around town, it’s specifically designed for the unique needs of dedicated cyclist commuters. The best commuter bikes provide the ideal combination of efficiency and luxury— we want to get to work quickly and comfortably— and the A7 Pro boasts some serious urban performance.
The main highlights of this Class 3 ebike (which ships as Class 2) include the full suspension setup and a 500W mid-drive motor that reaches a top speed of 28 mph. The step-thru design facilitates quickly hopping on and off in the city and comes in five attractive frame colors— we rode the Emerald Green model with its stylish mirror-finish “Himiway” lettering along the downtube.
We were pleasantly surprised by the color display built into the stem, offering a super clean aesthetic along with the cables routed through inside the stem. This is an innovative trick other tech-savvy brands like Fiido have done in the past and we think it’ll continue to catch on. Currently priced at $2,399, the A7 Pro is outfitted with smart components and tech that make it a worthwhile deal for dedicated commuters and recreational riders looking for a mid-drive model.
Himiway A7 Pro Suspension
The A7 Pro stands out among other commuter ebikes in part because it has a rear shock in addition to its front suspension fork. This full-suspension setup effectively smoothes out potholes and can even take on rugged terrain like light gravel or dirt tracks. The SR Suntour X1 fork provides 120mm of travel and the rear shock is cleanly tucked within the seat tube as part of the 4-bar linkage suspension system. The air springs are easily adjustable and the fork has lockout. We enjoyed the responsive shock absorption that is perfect for comfortable commuting and can confidently take on even bumpier terrains.
Himiway A7 Pro Top Speed
Capable of Class 3 speeds, the Himiway A7 Pro assists up to 28 mph and maxes out at 20 mph on throttle mode. Providing all that pace is the Anando M100 500W mid-drive motor equipped with a torque sensor, a huge upgrade compared to rear hub motors when it comes to natural-feeling assistance. We noticed that the motor takes a second to engage due to the torque sensor, but the bike is smooth and responsive once pedaling. One downside is that the right side of the handlebar is quite crowded with the throttle, trigger shifter, and bell— we would have preferred the throttle placed on the left.
There are 5 pedal assist modes and a right-hand thumb throttle as well as a useful walk mode. To get the most out of the torque sensor, it’s important to pedal in the correct gear for the ideal cadence and power output from the motor. We reached the top 28 mph speed actually going slightly uphill as the sensor noticed we were putting in more effort and delivered its maximum assistance— I like that kind of fine-tuned performance that isn’t simply trying to always provide the most power at all times.
Battery
Hidden underneath the chrome lettering along the downtube is the 15Ah Samsung battery pack that’s rated for up to 50 miles on a single charge. Our tests confirmed that the A7 Pro can reach close to those numbers on low assist levels, but you can expect a bit less when relying on the throttle only. The battery also powers the large headlight and automatic brake light that’s cleanly integrated into the rear rack.
How Much Does the Himiway A7 Pro Weigh?
The ebike weighs 77 lbs. with an overall weight capacity of 300 lbs. The updated rear rack is rated to support up to 55 lbs. but I’d say it can handle a bit more. That sturdy rear end is perfect for cruising around town picking up groceries, heading to the farmers’ market, and hauling items to picnics. The rack comes with bungee cords with a custom clip design and is compatible with MIK accessories if you want to add functionality to the rack.
The mid-drive motor’s central placement along the bike also provides a more balanced weight distribution compared to back-heavy rear hub motors. The A7 Pro’s overall ride position is upright and comfortable— the steeper headtube angle helps with easy maneuverability for smooth commuting and bike path riding. The adjustable stem is another nice touch to narrow in on your ideal bike fit.
Components
Commuter ebikes tease some of the most innovative components out there to elevate your daily ride in small but meaningful ways, and the A7 Pro boasts plenty of creative tech. The seat is easily adjustable via a hydraulic dropper lever underneath the saddle that feels like it has a bit of suspension built-in. The ebike fits riders between 5’5 and 6’5 and could accommodate smaller riders if you swap out for a normal seat post.
One of the coolest features is the integrated ABUS wheel lock on the rear wheel— perfect for cafe stops and works with ABUS chains for more comprehensive security. There’s Shimano Alivio 9-speed gearing with high-quality Shimano MT200 hydraulic brakes that are a cut above many rival ebikes. Locking ergonomic grips and durable, metal fenders around the 27.5 x 2.4” wheels are also solid additions for a commuter model.
Overall Impression
The well-designed Himiway A7 Pro ($2,399) immediately reminded me of the modern commuter ebikes that are popular in Belgium and the Netherlands these days. They are much slimmer than fat tire ebikes and come with reliable mid-drive motors for a more natural-feeling boost, along with handy touches for commuting like a rear rack, wheel lock, and fenders.
