Protect Domestic Abuse Survivors from Discrimination at Work

Domestic abuse is on the increase; 1 in 5 adults experience Domestic Abuse during their lifetime. This equates to 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6-7 men. Furthermore, 1 in 4 people in same-sex relationships will experience domestic abuse. Many of these will be employed in some capacity. It is unacceptable that employers do not have any specific responsibility to provide adjustments or support for employees affected by domestic abuse. It is high time that this changes. The Equality Act of 2010 provides strong protection to employees who possess a 'protected characteristic'. These characteristics may include pregnancy, disability, sexuality, or religion. Employers have a legal obligation to refrain from discriminating against such employees and to provide reasonable support and adjustments when necessary. This Act is to be taken seriously, and any violation will be dealt with in the strongest possible manner. It's worth noting that the Equality Act doesn't currently provide protection for individuals who are current victims of domestic abuse or have been historically. This legal gap often results in discrimination at work, with some people losing their jobs due to issues related to the abuse.Interpersonal violence and abuse can have devastating impacts on individuals, regardless of their gender. However, it is important to note that women are more likely to be disproportionately affected by this issue. Women are more likely to experience severe and repeated forms of abuse, including sexual violence. This can have long-term physical and psychological effects on survivors, including increased risk of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Additionally, people may face barriers to seeking help and accessing support services, which can further exacerbate the impacts of violence and abuse. It is crucial to address this issue through education, prevention, and support for survivors.I have been a victim of domestic violence historically, and now I am facing punishment and termination of my employment due to concerns that I may not be able to ensure the safety of others in my occupation; this has left me absolutely devastated and with no income. Many years ago, I developed mental health problems as a result of the abuse I suffered. It's likely that anyone who goes through such trauma would experience some kind of mental health difficulty. However, I have since made a full recovery and have started working in the health and social care industry, hoping to make a positive impact on people's lives as a career change.I have completed domestic violence courses and safeguarding. I have confidently identified and reported safeguarding concerns in my most recent employment, demonstrating my commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of those under my care.I firmly believe that I possess the ability to make a valuable contribution to society through my unwavering dedication to helping others with love, compassion, empathy and my non-judgemental nature. It is important that the UK Government takes proactive measures to support and empower domestic abuse survivors. Let's strive to create a society where those affected by domestic abuse are not stigmatised and have access to resources that help them rebuild their lives. By providing opportunities for these survivors to contribute to the community, we can ensure that they are valued and have a chance to lead fulfilling lives. It's unfair for victims of abuse to have their livelihoods destroyed without any fault of their own.The inclusion of domestic abuse survivors in the Equality Act is of utmost importance. Demand Removal of Hazardous & Unsightly Communication Mast in Residential Cippenham area

Residents of Cippenham, Slough, UK were recently shocked to discover the installation of a 25metre+ Telecommunications mast less than 5 metres away from local houses. This mast, capable of carrying multiple communication aerials including potentially harmful 5G signals, was erected without the knowledge or consent of local residents and seemingly without any planning permission. The sudden appearance and proximity of this mast has caused significant distress among the community. The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified radiofrequency electromagnetic fields as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B), based on an increased risk for glioma, a malignant type of brain cancer associated with wireless phone use. While more research is needed to definitively assess the health risks associated with living near such masts, it is clear that this development has been carried out without due regard for local residents' rights or concerns. We demand that Slough Borough Council investigate this matter urgently and take appropriate action to remove this unapproved structure if it is found to be in violation of planning regulations. We also call for greater transparency and public consultation on future developments that may impact our health and environment. Please sign this petition if you believe in safeguarding our community's right to a safe living environment.

Stop Funeral Directors Exploiting Grieving Families

On the 23rd of April, my life changed forever when I lost my dad. As a family, we trusted a funeral director with the honour of caring for Dad. But instead of looking after him, they left his body to decompose, failing to provide even the most basic care. I didn't even get to say my final goodbye.I was so outraged and upset - right now, there is no regulation of funeral directors - they are not even required to have a fridge. It really is a free for all. This creates a culture of profit over consistent care, numbers over compassion. They record this neglect and abuse in their own reports because there is no one to audit them. They aren’t breaking any law. They have no consequences. The funeral directors have the option to join a voluntary association, they claim to follow their code but there is no recourse for when things go wrong. The strongest sanction available is expulsion, that’s if they decide to investigate at all.I can’t be at peace knowing other families are at risk of their loved ones being treated the same.Funerals in the UK need to be regulated and associations like the National Association of Funeral Directors need to have power to inflict real sanctions on companies and incite change from the top. That is the only way to ensure no one is ever mistreated and neglected like my Dad was.My dad was the proudest, most loyal man - he deserved dignity and respect on his journey to his final resting place. We can’t change what’s happened in the past but we can use his legacy to make sure regulation is put in place going forward. Please sign my petition and help me get this to parliament to incite change and make the funeral industry follow simple guidelines for the care of our loved ones.If anyone can offer support or would like to share there experience directly I can be contacted at; regulatefuneralsnow@gmail.com

Save our Nuffield Gym on Minerva Way, Finnieston, Glasgow

We are a community of long-standing members who have been using our local Nuffield Gym in Finnieston for many years. This gym is not just a place to exercise, but it has become an integral part of our lives and community. We now face the threat of losing this cherished space to a development of new flats that will not only rob us of our gym but also mar the iconic local skyline we have grown to love, that is also part of Glasgow's own brand. The proposed demolition and construction project threatens not only our fitness routines - which are central to our health and well being - but also the aesthetic beauty and character of our neighbourhood. The current planning application proposes the construction of 362 flats and 57 car park spaces. The flats could be built in several blocks up to a 9 storey height which will dramatically change the local skyline and flood the local area with many more people. This will put more demand on over stretched local services such as GPs, dentist and schools. According to data from The Scottish Government (2019), there is already an excess supply of flats in Glasgow city centre. However, there is a lack of accessible recreational facilities like our gym which is so well located - it is highly accessible by road, train, bike and on foot. It has circa 3000 members ranging from babies, young children to older adults in their 80s, it has many families, friends and work colleagues who all come to the gym to use the wide range of facilities - the Café, creche, pool, saunas, steam room, a huge gym, spin cycling, weights, beauty spa, climbing wall and a wide range of activity classes (including Yoga, Pilates, circuits and more). It is also important to know that Nuffield Health that owns the gym is the UKs largest healthcare charity - they are driven by a strong and long standing purpose to prevent illness by looking after mind and body. They not only offer the gym membership but also promote Programmes For All and actively seek to widen access to services and give people the tools to live a healthy life.As members we also believe that preserving community spaces like this gym contributes significantly towards maintaining mental and physical health amongst local residents, members and others who use the gym - something especially important during these challenging times when health should be prioritised above all else as we continue the slow economic and social recovery from COVID and whilst we all learn to balance busy stressful working lives with our health and well being. We know that in Scotland, and particularly in Glasgow, there are many health challenges. The number of people living with excess weight and obesity is increasing, the number of people diagnosed with diabetes and other lifestyle related illness are also on the rise. We also know that modern lifestyles place greater demands on our mental health. We know that exercise, social connection and positive community environments all contribute to overcoming these issues. So our ask is simple. Please stand with us against this proposed change. Let's save our beloved Nuffield Gym on Minerva Way, Finnieston, Glasgow from closure and prevent unnecessary construction of more flats that will have a huge negative impact on local residents and services, it will disrupt our healthy lifestyle routines, disrupt the ability of the gym to help contribute to improving the health and well being of several thousands of people and fundamentally damage the iconic local community and skyline. Please sign this petition today and we will use this as part of our campaign to object to the planning application which will be considered soon by Glasgow City Councils Planning Committee. We do not know when this will be so please sign NOW so we can ensure we can object with your backing. Many are with us already. Join us and lets stand together and save our Nuffield Minerva Way gym!

Safety and welfare of prison officers and prison staff

We are reaching out to request your support by signing our petition. This cannot be a platform for a slanging match or a war of words only constructive feedback please. All to often we as prison officers are at the sharp end of a prisoners fury we understand that, we are aware of the risks when we sign up to do the job however when the inevitable happens and we do succumb to that anger and rage how many of us can say that we are fully supported by our senior management? I accept that governors have difficult decisions to make at times and will be criticised either way but there is far to much appeasem*nt given to prisoners whilst staff and thier family and loved ones are left to pick up the pieces for themselves. Allow One Blue Badge Application for Families with Multiple Eligible Members

As a dedicated father and husband, I am the primary caregiver to my family. My son has Cystic Fibrosis, my wife suffers from psoriatic arthritis, and my daughter is Autistic. Each of them qualifies for a blue badge - a critical lifeline that makes our day-to-day life manageable. However, the current system requires individual applications for each family member at an additional cost of £20 per person every three years. This means that despite living in the same household and using the same vehicle most often driven by me, we are forced to pay £60 every three years for separate blue badges. This financial burden adds unnecessary stress to families like ours who are already dealing with significant health challenges. Moreover, as their primary caregiver and most frequent driver, I am unable to use the blue badge when taking my children individually to their appointments unless accompanied by my wife – an inefficient system that fails to consider real-life scenarios faced by families like ours.Accordingly, we urge policymakers to revise this policy allowing one application per household where multiple members qualify for a blue badge. This change will not only alleviate financial pressure on families but also ensure more efficient use of resources. Please sign this petition if you believe in fair access and support for all those eligible under one roof!

Get The Jacobite Steam train back on tracks

The Jacobite Steam Train which travels along the West Highland line from Fort William to Mallaig and famous for it's feature in the 2002 film Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets has been suspended with immediate effect.Operating from April to October, the service brings up to 700 people per day from Fort William to Mallaig. Some passengers then travelling on to Skye and the Isles. Creating employment for upwards of 40 people on the service alone throughout the season. As a result of the service being suspended we now face the reality of a huge loss in tourism, a direct devastating effect on local businesses and an expected loss of £50m to the local economy.Upward of 700 people a day travel on the service. Not to mention the 500,000 people that visit Glenfinnan. A huge chunk of that number visit to simply watch the Train travel over the Viaduct. All these people that visit don't just jump on the train....There are coach parties that will visit your Cafes and Shops before and after their trip. They will grab a sandwich from Supermarkets, they will buy a Postcard, Shortbread or Souvenir from our Gift Shops.Families and Friends that won't do the journey in one day and decide to stay in our Hotels and B&B's and will visit our Pubs, Takeaways and Restaurants in the evening.People travelling from all over the world , just to do the trip on the Vintage Carriages. Elderly visitors reliving their childhood memories travelling on what used to be their every day transport. Regular visitors that travel year after year, lifelong dreams being made real and sometimes more sadly, some people doing it as their last wish. The knock on effect of this service not running is undoubtably huge to our economy and our personal lives. Stretching much further than our own businesses and doors. McDonalds Fulford Road

McDonalds are planning to open a new store in the old Iceland supermarket, on Fulford Road, in south York. We are not an Anti-McDonalds group, but we are against this proposal in this quiet residential area. If you'd like to fight this, please sign this petition. The local residents, the local concillors, the Schools are all against this, and are busy collecting evidence to bring to the planning commitee - but you can help too by signing this petition. We need many voices to be heard. The main arguments against this are...TRAFFIC. This is one of the main arteries into York, and the busiest. Any new development that attracts additional traffic is unacceptable. Currently the traffic at commute times, is daily at a standstill. During the busy tourist seasons, the traffic can take a hour to flow up the length of Fulford Rd. I feel we must argue against anything that will bring additional traffic, especially at breakfast and tea time. This will affect your commute!5 LOCAL SCHOOLS. The site is very close to Danesgate School, Steiner York, Fulford High, St Georges and Fishergate Primary. McDonalds, will attract people to loiter and congregate around them, encouraging children to come and take their lunch there, taking them out of school, and away from healthier options. And instead of taking the bus straight home from school, the children will have a reason to hang around longer, before, during and after school.PARKING: The site has a shared carpark, which can often be 80% full at busy times. The overspill will affect the neighbouring streets.NOISE. Many McDonalds, even in residential areas, can be open 24hrs a day as ‘dark-sites’ providing afterhours trade to its online delivery riders. This one will definitely be open for trade between 7am and 11pm, with staff arriving and leaving outside those hours. This is unacceptable in a currently quiet residential area.POLLUTION. From both the fumes and the extra litter. Fast food takeaways are a huge factor in street litter, and no matter how many bins McDonalds say they will install, the litter on our streets will increase, especially on Millenium Fields. The greasy fumes and smell from a restaurant like this will cover the area, and any laundry the local residents hang out to dry!

Let girls play football at schools like the boys do - equal rights for all!

I’m Lola and I’m 10 years old and I think all girls across the country should be able to play football and other sports at school. It shouldn’t be down to whether or not you have a good PE teacher or whether they like PE. How can girls be inspired if they don’t get to play and enjoy a wide variety of sports at school?Do you know so many of my friends have no sports clubs at school or they have boys football teams only. Why can’t we have mixed teams? Why can’t we inspire girls and boys to play together. It’s not fair. Girls football should be offered as soon as girls start school. Get them moving and inspire them to play. Me and my friends at other schools across the country want to be able to play in a school team every week, play outdoor matches. We want to and can do what the boys can do.What we need:⚽️ We need better training for trainee teachers - they need to be able to confidently teach a wide variety of sports and inspire all children.⚽️ Football needs to become part of the curriculum - girls need fairer and better access to the game.⚽️ All primary schools need to commit to giving funding to offer training to all of their teachers to ensure they continue to progress and develop their own expertise.Girls can do it too Help me make a change and let’s improve the future of women’s sport.

Shut down the Ministry of Truth

My name’s Mark and I’m a human rights campaigner. I’ve just found out I was included in a government Mis/Disinformation Report for sharing a petition from the official Parliamentary petitions websiteAnd it’s clear that I’m not the only one.Big Brother Watch research has found that secretive government units have been monitoring and recording criticism of the Government on social media. Politicians, academics, campaigners, journalists and even members of the public have been subjected to monitoring by Whitehall officials, and an “information warfare machine” in the British Army. Worryingly, many of these units have a special relationship with social media companies which gives them powers to force the censorship of online speech. The government’s Counter Disinformation Unit (now called the National Security Online Information Team) censors and monitors dissent, not disinformation, without due process or transparency. It should be shut down. The Counter Disinformation Unit overstepped the mark. Whilst the public think they’re fighting disinformation from hostile foreign states, Big Brother Watch’s investigation reveals that they’re acting just like those authoritarian states by monitoring campaigners, experts, journalists and MPs who post unflattering information about them. Monitoring critics and suppressing dissent only harms our democracy.Government units are working in the shadows to keep tabs on people like you and me.Join me in standing up for the rights to freedom of speech and privacy in the UK and demand that the government stop spying on us.

Reverse the UK Government's Decision to Cut Benefits for Mental Health Conditions

I am writing this petition not only as an individual diagnosed with Depression and Anxiety but also as a trainee counsellor who witnesses the devastating impact of these illnesses on peoples' lives every day. The recent decision by the UK government to cut benefits for individuals suffering from mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression is deeply concerning.Mental health conditions are just as debilitating, if not more so, than many physical ailments. According to Mind, a leading UK mental health charity, approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year (Mind.org.uk). These individuals rely on government assistance not out of choice but out of necessity. The decision to cut benefits fails to recognize that mental health issues are legitimate illnesses that require consistent treatment and support. It also overlooks the fact that those affected by these conditions often struggle with daily tasks and maintaining employment due to their symptoms. We urge the UK government to reconsider this decision and maintain full benefits for those suffering from anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions. Your signature can help ensure that individuals battling these invisible illnesses receive the support they need. Please sign this petition today.

Stop the Increase of UK Spouse Visa Financial Requirements

PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE THIS PARLIAMENTARY PETITION THIS IS OUR LAST HOPE TO STOP UK SPOUSE VISA FINANCIAL INCREASE OF £38,700 click on this link: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/652602Government needs to stop playing Russian rullet with people's lives. New announcement of £29,000 is still too high for average British to earn. Even worse British people will be faced with a life full of uncertainty as the Home Secretary announced salary requirements will still increase up to £38,700 in sometime. This is showing lack of security for British people. They will now have to stop planning as things can change suddenly. This experimental attitude towards British people will not be accepted. As British people we have full rights to live life feeling secure and stable with our loved ones. Stop ignoring low income earning British people and start treating everyone equally. £29,000 is still too high for average British people who work very hard and enjoy very little time with their family and loved ones already.(Case to be noted their has recently been a suicide case reported regarding a spouse visa increase. This comes to show how dangerous this increase can be for vulnerable Brits.)As a hardworking citizen of the United Kingdom, I have been striving for years to create a life with my future spouse from abroad. My journey has been marked by personal struggles, including battling depression and securing employment that meets the current financial requirement for a UK Spouse visa - £18,600 per annum. Now, just as I am within reach of achieving this dream, it is threatened by proposed government changes to increase these financial requirements. The current threshold already poses significant challenges for many Brits like me who work tirelessly yet earn modest incomes. The proposed increase would put an even greater strain on us and jeopardize our right to live in peace and happiness with our chosen partners. This proposal is not only detrimental to individuals but also undermines the values of unity and family that we hold dear in Britain. According to Migration Observatory at Oxford University (2017), approximately 40% of British workers do not earn enough to sponsor a spouse's visa under existing rules. If these requirements are raised further, more families will be separated or prevented from forming at all.We urge the government not only to reconsider this proposal but also review its approach towards migration policies that affect innocent citizens who simply wish to build their lives with their loved ones here in Britain. Please sign this petition if you believe in love transcending borders and stand against unfair financial barriers separating families.
